Leeks do best in fertile soil with a little bit of tlc. Put the transplant in the ground as deep as reasonable without burying the growth point (where new leaves are coming from). Mound up the soil around the base of the plant 2-3 times through the season to create more blanched stalk. They can withstand a light frost but should be harvested before heavy frosts come.
