Maltese Cross

Lychnis chalcedonica

Perennial (Zone 3)

Full to Part Sun

Blooms Early to Late Summer

30 "-36" Tall

Plant 12"-18" Apart

An heirloom flower that has been grown in North America since colonial times. The plants form an upright cluster of bright green leaves with tall stems of scarlet orange flowers that are irresistable to hummingbirds. The flowers also make great cut flowers that keep will in a vase. The plants prefer rich well drained soil, and dead-heading will extend the bloom time.
